Lin-Manuel Miranda has expressed his aspiration to have the musical Hamilton presented in Spanish during its next Puerto Rican performance.

Hamilton, a global sensation, has seen its run in various locations worldwide. Notably, it had multiple shows in Puerto Rico, the most recent of which took place in June to support the Hispanic Federation and the Flamboyan Arts Fund. Miranda, the genius behind the musical, disclosed that he envisions the musical’s next Puerto Rican act to be in Spanish.

In a recent episode of the podcast “En PR”, Miranda shared that the translation of the musical into Spanish has already commenced.

Miranda remarked (originally in Spanish, translated here), “While we’re yet to finalize plans, the next Hamilton staging in Puerto Rico will be in Spanish. This translation process is lengthy but holds great significance to me.”

Hamilton’s Puerto Rican Journey:

Hamilton made its Puerto Rican debut in 2019, running from January 11 to January 27, featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda in the leading role.

Four years on, in June 2023, the “Angelica Tour” marked its return for a fortnight from June 13-25, staged at the Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré in San Juan. A special performance to fundraise for the Hispanic Federation and the Flamboyan Arts Fund was held on June 16, 2023. The performance was graced by the original Broadway cast of Hamilton, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Christopher Jackson, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Leslie Odom, Jr.
