Mahindra, the renowned Indian automotive company, is introducing its electric SUVs and crossovers to the European market

The esteemed Indian automaker, Mahindra, has unveiled the electric Thar.e, a rugged 4×4 designed for the European market. Further fully electric models are under development and intended for export.

According to a report by Autocar, Mahindra is considering introducing its latest “Born-Electric” SUV series in Europe and the UK in the coming years. Initially, this series will consist of three electric crossovers developed on a new architecture inspired by Volkswagen’s MEB platform.

The vehicles BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09 will be the pioneers of Mahindra’s new “Inglo” platform. This platform is intended to be one of the lightest electric vehicle platforms globally and will incorporate batteries with capacities ranging from 60 kWh to 80 kWh, capable of charging up to 175 kW.

As per Autocar, the initial Inglo models will feature batteries from the Chinese manufacturer BYD, with Volkswagen taking over the battery supply later on. Volkswagen will also provide the electric motors for the Born-Electric series and the production model of the Thar.e. Versions will be available with a 210 kW/286 PS rear-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive with an additional 79 kW/108 PS motor at the rear.

The Thar.e concept draws inspiration from Mahindra’s successful Thar model, an affordable and sturdy SUV with design similarities to the Jeep Wrangler. Veejay Nakra, Mahindra’s Automotive Head, describes it as “a symbol of innovation and groundbreaking design that highlights Mahindra’s uniqueness and global recognition.”

According to the report, the BE.05 will be Mahindra’s first new electric model, expected to debut in October 2025. The BE.07 is anticipated to follow six months later. Release dates for the BE.09 and Thar.e are yet to be announced.
