Get Ready to Battle it Out in the Virtual World of ‘Squid Game’: Sandbox VR and Netflix Join Forces for an Immersive VR Experience

Fans of Netflix’s hit thriller “Squid Game” can now experience the pulse-pounding challenges of the show in a fully-immersive virtual reality experience, thanks to Sandbox VR’s partnership with Netflix. 

Players will be transported to multiple locations from the show and compete against each other in various challenges to be the last one standing. After each game session, players will receive personalized video highlights of their in-game reactions.

The Sandbox VR x Squid Game VR experience is set to open in late 2023. 

The show, which has already been adapted into a VR experience by gaming company Immersive Gamebox, is Netflix’s most-watched show of all time. Netflix has ordered a second season of the show and greenlit a reality show called “Squid Game: The Challenge,” which has faced controversy over alleged inhumane conditions experienced by contestants.

Sandbox VR, which was founded in 2016, operates in over 30 locations worldwide and uses motion-tracking technology and haptic feedback to provide a unique VR experience. 

The company’s six existing experiences include “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Deadwood Valley,” “Deadwood Mansion,” “Curse of Davy Jones,” “Amber Sky 2088,” and “UFL: Unbound Fighting League.” Its investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund, Gobi Partners, and individual investors such as Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Kevin Durant, and Will Smith.

With the Sandbox VR x Squid Game VR experience, players will be fully immersed in the world of “Squid Game,” with each game session offering a new, intense challenge to overcome. 

Players will be able to experience the excitement and thrill of the show in a way that was not previously possible. The use of motion-tracking technology and haptic feedback will allow players to fully engage in the experience, feeling as though they are truly in the world of “Squid Game.”
