Vanessa Hudgens, the American actress renowned for participating in the High School Musical trilogy (2006-2008), has been designated the Philippines’ global tourism ambassador. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and other government officials announced on Thursday during a visit to the Malacanang Palace, the official presidential office and residence in Manila.
Images shared on the Philippines’ Presidential Communications Office Facebook page show the 34-year-old actress alongside Mr. Marcos, accepting a plaque in honour of her new position. Hudgens, who also starred in the musical biopic Tick, Tick… Boom! (2021) and the romantic comedy series The Princess Switch (2018-2021), which is currently in the Philippines, to shoot a documentary series in Manila and Palawan.
The series is expected to center on Hudgens exploring her Filipino roots, as her mother, Gina, hails from the country. Previously, the actress shared photos on Instagram of herself and her sister Stella swimming in El Nido’s lagoons in Palawan.
During her first visit to the Philippines, Hudgens referred to the country as “paradise,” posting images of herself relishing the pristine, blue waters from a crystal kayak.
As Vanessa Hudgens takes on her new role as the Philippines’ global tourism ambassador, she is expected to leverage her celebrity status to promote the country’s rich culture, natural beauty, and tourist attractions. The documentary series, set to showcase her journey connecting with her Filipino heritage, may also attract international viewers and boost tourism.
