The love story of Grace Coddington, former creative director of American Vogue, and Willie Christie, a renowned fashion photographer and film director, is one such saga. Their relationship blossomed into marriage in 1976, only to end in 1978. Despite the split, their careers flourished separately, with Coddington moving to the United States and Christie focusing on his career in film. Today, Christie’s book, “A Very Distinctive Style: Then & Now,” serves as a testament to their shared history, featuring not only these intimate moments but also his collaborations with icons like David Bowie and The Rolling Stones.
In a touching moment at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Coddington asked Christie if he had ever been starstruck by any models or actors he photographed. His response, “Well, I was by you,” encapsulates the enduring affection and respect between the two, even years after their relationship ended.
