After over 50 years of rocking together, Aerosmith is embarking on its final tour to visit a city near you.
The renowned Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees disclosed the schedule for their farewell tour, titled “Peace Out.” The time starts on September 2 in Philadelphia and spans 40 dates, featuring a show in the band’s hometown of Boston on New Year’s Eve before concluding on January 26 in Montreal.
“It’s about time,” commented guitarist Joe Perry.
According to Perry, the band—consisting of frontman Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer, and guitarist Brad Whitford—gained insights from their recent Las Vegas residency shows regarding staging and production.
With every original band member over 70 years old, Perry feels it’s the right moment to bid farewell, mainly since Tyler, 75, is the group’s eldest member.
“It’s a chance to celebrate our 50-year journey,” Perry explained. “You can never be sure how long everyone will remain healthy enough to perform… It’s been some time since our last full tour. Our Vegas stint was great and enjoyable, but we’re eager to hit the road again.”
Tyler and Perry anticipate delving into the band’s extensive repertoire of rock classics, such as Crazy, Janie’s Got a Gun, and Livin’ on the Edge.
Since forming in 1970, Aerosmith has garnered four Grammys and made history by blending rock and hip-hop in their iconic collaboration with Run-DMC for Walk This Way.
The band has previously performed at the 2001 Super Bowl halftime show and even had their theme park attraction at Disney World in Florida, followed by Paris with the “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.”
“We’re unlocking Pandora’s Box one final time to bring our fans the Peace Out tour,” Tyler told The Associated Press, referencing the band’s 1991 three-disc compilation album. “Join us as we unleash all the toys from the attic. Be prepared.”
Although still a group member, drummer Kramer has opted out of the upcoming tour’s current dates. The band explained that he has been on leave since their Vegas residency last year to concentrate on his family and health. John Douglas will continue to fill in on drums.
The band described Kramer as their brother, and his “legendary presence behind the drum kit will be greatly missed.”
Perry hinted that additional domestic and international cities might be included before the 40-date tour concludes.
“It’s our final farewell tour, but I suspect it will continue for some time,” he said. “However, I’m unsure how often we’ll return to the same cities. It could very well be our last time.”
