On Twitter, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed that he’s reprising his role as Luke Hobbs in an upcoming, yet-to-be-titled “Fast & Furious” film. This comes after his hiatus from the franchise in 2021 due to discord with co-star Vin Diesel.
“Luke Hobbs is returning to the Fast and Furious saga,” announced Johnson in a video clip from Hawaii, donned in a traditional lei.
“The upcoming Fast & Furious movie will once again feature the iconic lawman, Hobbs, and it’s designed to introduce a refreshing, new chapter and pave the way for FASTX: Part II,” he elaborated.
The “Fast & Furious” series has garnered over $7 billion in worldwide box office revenues, securing its position as the fifth top-earning franchise globally.
The recent film, “Fast X,” featuring Diesel and Jason Momoa, premiered last month and clinched the year’s second-biggest worldwide opening weekend. Its record was surpassed by another Universal film, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” It has raked in over $500 million at the global box office.
Johnson revealed that he and Diesel had reconciled their differences.
“Vin and I buried the hatchet last summer. We pledge to lead with fraternity and resolution – and we’ll always prioritize the franchise, its characters, and the FANS we adore,” Johnson shared in his post.
The “Moana” star further explained his “audience-first approach” to his acting career and sent his warm regards to the entire “Fast” family.
Chris Morgan, a seasoned writer in the franchise, is set to helm the script for the forthcoming film, enhancing Johnson’s depiction of the brave diplomatic security service agent he has portrayed in past installments.
This return marks a significant turning point for the franchise, signalling unity among its core stars and a promise of thrilling new chapters. With Dwayne Johnson back in the mix, the untitled “Fast & Furious” project is expected to push the boundaries of high-octane cinematic storytelling even further. The Fast & Furious saga continues to evolve, further cementing its legacy in the landscape of blockbuster cinema.
