Farewell to Lisa Loring, the First Wednesday Addams

The original actress who portrayed Wednesday Addams in the classic sitcom “The Addams Family,” Lisa Loring, passed away at 64. 

According to her longtime agent Chris Carbaugh, Loring died surrounded by her family on Saturday. Carbaugh praised Loring for bringing one of the most iconic characters in Hollywood to life and added that she loved meeting her fans from around the world.

Loring’s death was also confirmed by her friend Laurie Jacobson, who stated that she had suffered a stroke caused by smoking and high blood pressure. 

Fans took to social media to pay tribute to the former child star, who played Wednesday Addams at the age of six and was the blueprint for the pale, pigtail-wearing character.

Loring’s deadpan delivery of the role paved the way for other actresses to take on the character, including Christina Ricci in the 1991 hit movie “The Addams Family” and its sequel “Addams Family Values.” 

Jenna Ortega also acknowledged being inspired by Loring when she portrayed Wednesday in Tim Burton’s Netflix comedy horror “Wednesday.”

After her time as Wednesday Addams, Loring went on to have a successful acting career, appearing in shows such as “The Pruitts of Southampton,” “As the World Turns,” “The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.,” “Fantasy Island” and “Barnaby Jones.” 

Born Lisa Ann DeCinces in the Marshall Islands, Loring was given her stage name when she started modelling at the age of three.

Loring’s death has been met with a great deal of sadness and condolences from fans and entertainment industry members alike.
