DreamWorks Animation’s much-anticipated live-action remake of “How to Train Your Dragon” has found its leading duo and the casting is so spot-on it’s giving us goosebumps, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Disney has regularly produced live-action remakes over the years, stirring excitement and controversy with their casting decisions, which may or may not align with the fanbase’s expectations.

DreamWorks Animation is entering the live-action arena with its first remake, reimagining its famous 2010 animated film. Based on Cressida Cowell’s books, the story follows a diminutive Viking with an impressively long name who befriends a wounded dragon.

The adolescent Viking, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, will be portrayed by 15-year-old actor Mason Thames.

Mason Thames is remembered for his outstanding role as Finney Blake in the 2021 thriller “Black Phone” and his acting debut as young Daniel Stevens in the Apple TV+ drama “For All Mankind.” In the animated trilogy, Hiccup was voiced by Jay Baruchel.

Playing the opposite Thames as Hiccup’s competitor-turned-love interest, Astrid Hofferson will be 18-year-old Nico Parker.

Parker is known for her recent role as Sarah Miller in HBO’s “The Last of Us” and as Milly Ferrier in the live-action adaptation of “Dumbo.” America Ferrera gave voice to Astrid in the animated trilogy.

The casting choices for this live-action remake are incredibly promising. These gifted actors may well embody our beloved animated characters. As reported by THR, a “many months” long search was undertaken to find actors who could grow with the franchise, given the animated films’ span over several years. With their ideal ages, they are perfect for the job.

We eagerly await the arrival of this promising live-action remake. With the casting of Thames and Parker, DreamWorks Animation has set the stage for what could be a genuinely remarkable and faithful adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon.” As fans, we can only hope these talented actors will deliver performances that do justice to our beloved animated heroes, Hiccup and Astrid. We will certainly be watching their journey unfold with great anticipation.
