Lil Nas X, the renowned American rapper and songwriter, expressed his wish for fans to glimpse the genuine individual behind the celebrity facade in his latest documentary, as shared during the 43rd Toronto Film Festival.
Montero Lamar Hill, better recognized as Lil Nas X, made history as the first openly gay recipient of a Country Music Association award for his hit “Old Town Road.”
His biographical film, titled “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero,” helmed by directors Carlos Lopez Estrada and Zac Manuel, shadows him throughout his tour, encapsulating his bond with his fans and charting his personal evolution as a black queer artist.
“I hope my fans get to see the real me. I’m constantly in jest and enjoying life, so this documentary provides them with a lens into my world,” Lil Nas X commented during the red carpet event. He further hinted that the film symbolizes a chapter closing and the dawn of another in his life.
Nas confessed, “The documentary resonates with my current mindset… which feels somewhat bewildering.”
Estrada, in a conversation with Reuters, emphasized that the film revolves around the theme of metamorphosis. Both Lil Nas X and his fans epitomize the journey of acknowledging and embracing one’s true self.
Estrada added, “Nas’s fans have truly championed his call to fully embrace oneself, accepting both the facets you adore and those you’re apprehensive about.”
As the world of music and entertainment continues to diversify, artists like Lil Nas X are paving the way, demonstrating strength in vulnerability and authenticity. “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero” promises to not only offer an intimate view into the life of a groundbreaking artist but also to inspire countless others to walk in their own truths and rewrite the narrative.
