Brendan Fraser is an accomplished actor known for his dynamic performances in a variety of film and television roles.

He recently starred in the critically acclaimed film “The Whale,” which earned him the Best Actor award at the Critics Choice Awards and is expected to be nominated for an Oscar.

The film tells the story of Charlie, a 600-lb. man, as he attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter Ellie, portrayed by Sadie Sink.

Despite losing to Austin Butler for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) at the Golden Globes, Fraser’s performance in The Whale is considered a triumph and a resurgence of his career.

Brendan Fraser gave an emotional speech as he received the Best Actor award at the Critics Choice Awards for his leading role in The Whale.

He emerged victorious over other notable performances, such as Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis and Colin Farrell’s in The Banshees of Inisherin.

As Fraser’s name was announced, he was moved to tears. During his acceptance speech, he made reference to American author Herman Melville.

“Herman Melville once wrote that there are only five critics in America — the rest are asleep. I don’t know what it means, either, but I’m grateful you were awake to recognize my performance,” Fraser said during his acceptance speech.

He then turned his attention to The Whale’s director, Darren Aronofsky, who had previously stated it took him 10 years to find the right actor for the film’s lead.

“Darren, I was lost, but you found me. Like all the best directors, you showed me the way,” Fraser said.

He said the film was about “love, redemption, and finding the light in a dark place.”

He also praised his co-stars Hong Chau and Sadie Sink.

Fraser delivered a powerful message about perseverance as the music started to play him off the stage.

“If you, like the character I played, struggle with obesity or feel lost at sea, know that if you have the strength to stand up and head towards the light, good things will happen,” he concluded.

Fraser concluded his speech with a heartfelt thanks to his family, friends, and the team behind The Whale, stating that it was a dream come true to receive recognition for his work and to be back in the industry doing what he loved.

The crowd gave him a standing ovation as he left the stage, moved by his words and performance in the film.

It was a triumphant moment for Brendan Fraser, marking a resurgence in his career and cementing his place as a talented and respected actor in Hollywood.

The Whale tells the story of Charlie, a 600-lb. man, as he attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter Ellie, portrayed by Sadie Sink.

Following his award acceptance, Fraser, who was still visibly moved, shared with reporters that receiving the Critics Choice award meant more to him than he could express in words.

Fraser is predicted to receive an Oscar nomination for his role in The Whale.

When asked about the potential nomination, Fraser quipped that he would have to purchase another suit.

He went on to say, “It would mean a lot to me, like any other actor who dared to hope and to dream.”

The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 24th, 2023. However, on Tuesday, Fraser’s performance in The Whale lost to Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis Presley for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) at the Golden Globes.

Fraser was not present at the event, having previously stated that he would not attend after he alleged that he had been sexually assaulted by Philip Berk, a former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). This organization hosts the Golden Globes.
