“It’s uncertain if it will materialize.”
Keanu Reeves recently shared a rather disheartening revelation about the much-anticipated sequel to Constantine amid the ongoing shake-up in the DC Universe.
The prospect of a sequel to the 2005 cult hit was announced in 2022, promising to reunite Reeves with director Francis Lawrence.
However, the fate of Constantine 2 became questionable soon after James Gunn and Peter Safran assumed control of DC Studios, leaving it in a state of uncertainty akin to many other DC projects.
Earlier this year, fans were buoyed by an encouraging update which hinted that Warner Bros Discovery hadn’t abandoned the sequel.
Yet, the prospects for the sequel appear to be in flux once more, with Reeves himself expressing doubts about its realization.
In a discussion with CinemaBlend, the renowned star of John Wick conceded that while efforts are being made to proceed with the sequel, the outlook is not encouraging.
“We’re trying, but I’m not certain it will materialize,” shared Reeves during the interview.
When asked about adopting Constantine’s iconic short blonde hair from the Hellblazer comics, Reeves remarked on playing a distinct version of the character in the past, adding he might not get the chance to return to the role.
“I’m not sure if blonde suits me,” Reeves joked. “I hope to have the opportunity, but it’s not guaranteed.”
In related news, Reeves recently disclosed details about the shocking conclusion of John Wick: Chapter 4, in which his character, the legendary assassin John Wick, seems to meet his end.
“The idea of him finding peace or freedom…that’s the motivation for making the movie. It cannot merely be: ‘Let’s make another sequel.'”
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Constantine 2, fans of Reeves can look forward to seeing him in other projects.
