In the recent virtual unveiling of the Emmy nominations, the spotlight shone on ‘Succession,’ ‘The Last of Us,’ ‘The White Lotus’ and ‘Ted Lasso’ as these shows garnered the most nominations.
The roll call of nominees for the prestigious 2023 Emmy Awards features Succession, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, and Ted Lasso as the most-recognized shows.
Pedro Pascal from The Last of Us, Jeremy Strong from Succession, Quinta Brunson from Abbott Elementary and Jenna Ortega from Wednesday have all earned acting nominations.
However, the list also held a few surprises with unexpected omissions. These include Harrison Ford for Shrinking and 1923, Elizabeth Olsen for Love & Death, Selena Gomez and Steve Martin for Only Murders in the Building, Sarah Goldberg for Barry, the entire cast of Saturday Night Live, and no mentions of Yellowstone and Snowfall. In contrast, Welcome to Chippendales and Jury Duty secured a surprising five and four nominations, respectively.
Yvette Nicole Brown and TV Academy chair Frank Scherma disclosed the nominations in a digital event on Wednesday.
To be considered for the 2023 awards, television series must have aired from June 1, 2022, through May 31, 2023.
The 75th Primetime Emmys will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater (formerly the Microsoft Theater) on Monday, Sept. 18, from 5-8 p.m. PT/ 8-11 p.m. ET on Fox. The Creative Arts ceremonies are slated for Sept. 9-10. The Fox ceremony host is yet to be announced. The awards could be delayed due to the ongoing writers’ strike unless resolved this summer. Furthermore, the prospect of an actors’ strike looms as SAG-AFTRA continues contract discussions with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
