Featuring iconic tweed suits and a collection of timeless little black dresses, a fresh exhibit in London delves into the legendary designs of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, the celebrated French fashion icon.

Launching this Saturday at the V&A museum, “Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto” marks the inaugural UK showcase devoted to Chanel’s pioneering fashion contributions and her enduring impact on the industry.

Showcased are her signature tweed suits, relaxed and drop-waisted dresses, and show-stopping evening wear.

Chanel’s innovative designs, accessories, and fragrances, notably the iconic Chanel No.5, took the world by storm. Established in 1910, the Chanel brand continues to stand tall as one of the globe’s premier luxury labels.

Connie Karol Burks, who oversees the textile and fashion department since 1900 at the museum, remarked to Reuters, “Gabrielle Chanel’s profound influence on contemporary fashion is her emphasis on versatility and comfort. She was always considering ease of movement and the joy of wearing one’s attire.”

The fashion luminary Chanel passed away in 1971 at the age of 87. The reins of the luxury label were later handed to the esteemed designer Karl Lagerfeld in 1984, who maintained his role until his passing in 2019. Virginie Viard has since taken up the role of creative director.

As the world continues to evolve, the timeless creations of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel serve as a reminder of the power of innovation, adaptability, and personal style. The “Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto” exhibition not only celebrates the legacy of a fashion pioneer but also underscores the lasting impact of design that values both aesthetics and comfort. As visitors stroll through the V&A museum, they are offered a glimpse into the mind of a visionary who forever changed the fabric of fashion.
