Enjoying a juicy hot dog from the ballpark with a refreshing cola is a staple experience. But what if the hot dog brought with it the taste of cola?

Brace yourselves, ketchup enthusiasts! Pepsi’s cola-infused ketchup is not just an idea anymore – it has been materialized. In honour of Independence Day, this new condiment will debut at selected Major League Baseball stadiums.

With its conviction that hot dogs and fizzy drinks make the best pair, Pepsi introduces “Pepsi Colachup” – their inaugural foray into the condiment scene. This unique condiment was created with the assistance of the Culinary Institute of America Consulting (CIA Consulting). The concoction comprises a Pepsi reduction, smoked tomatoes, cinnamon, oregano, onions, and ketchup.

“The vibrant citrus blend and unique flavours of Pepsi elevate the tangy nature of ketchup, which perfectly complements the smoky flavour of the hot dog,” stated David Kamen, the director of the client experience for CIA Consulting, in a press release.

While this unusual pairing might raise eyebrows, Colachup has secured a positive review from competitive hot dog-eating champion Joey Chestnut. He told the culinary website Mashed, “You can taste the citrusy sweetness. It’s a blend of barbecue sauce and ketchup that pairs perfectly with hot dogs.”

However, even a glowing recommendation from a hot dog legend isn’t enough to convince everyone about the existence of Colachup. Critics have turned to humour on Twitter with comments like “Y’all need Jesus” and “One day you will have to answer for your sins.”

Currently, Colachup seems to be a marketing strategy aimed at promoting Pepsi’s #BetterWithPepsi campaign, intending to take on Coca-Cola’s dominance in the soft drink industry.

This unique sauce will be available for tasting on Independence Day (July 4) at four select U.S. ballparks: Chase Field in Phoenix, Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York City, Target Field in Minneapolis, and Comerica Park in Detroit.

As we gear up for the Fourth of July festivities, this unique collaboration between hot dogs and Pepsi’s new ‘Colachup’ will surely excite the day. Only time will tell whether it becomes a new fan favourite or a fleeting novelty. For now, Pepsi is encouraging everyone to celebrate the day with a new twist on an old classic. So if you happen to be at one of the four Independence Day stadiums, why not try’ Colachup’? You might find your new favourite condiment.
