Friday marked the return of the Italian luxury brand Valentino to Milan Fashion Week’s menswear runway, presenting a unique mix of blazers and coats paired with shorts. This inventive approach, led by creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, aimed at reinterpreting the conventional notion of masculinity.
Classic workwear pieces were given a twist with embroidered flowers, offering a touch of elegance. The brand also introduced unconventional elements, like tissue flowers, replacing traditional ties.
Under the ownership of the Qatari investment entity Mayhoola, Valentino unveiled its Spring/Summer 2024 menswear collection in the beautifully arched courtyard of Milan’s state university.
Breaking away from the co-ed runway model it had employed over the past three years, Valentino reverted to its roots in Milan. This is the city where the brand’s founder, Valentino Garavani, conducted the debut Valentino menswear show back in 1985.
Until June 20, Milan Fashion Week will host 72 events and presentations of menswear collections. Other luxury labels set to showcase their designs include Giorgio Armani, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Ermenegildo Zegna.
As Valentino navigates its way back to the roots of the menswear show in Milan, its fresh perspective on masculinity, showcased through innovative style blends and delicate embroidery, sets a promising tone for this year’s Fashion Week. The redefined collection, a deviation from traditional norms, is just a glimpse of the inventiveness expected to follow. With upcoming presentations from giants such as Giorgio Armani, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Ermenegildo Zegna, the event is sure to offer a decadent platter of trends, styles, and pioneering fashion conceptions that will dominate the global stage for the seasons to come.
