President Joe Biden is set to demonstrate the unity of the Democratic Party supporting his 2024 reelection bid by introducing his campaign’s national advisory board on Wednesday. This board consists of prominent elected officials who will contribute to his campaign.

The advisory board, composed of 50 officials, represents a broad spectrum of the Democratic landscape. It includes three of Biden’s 2020 primary competitors — Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, and Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. The board also features two politicians considering a presidential run if Biden had chosen not to, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and California Governor Gavin Newsom. Progressive favourite Representative Maxwell Frost joins the board, along with emerging party stars like Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, as well as successful fundraisers such as Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif chair the group. The board members are expected to harness their donor networks for Biden, make public appearances to support him, and engage their followers and local communities to advocate for Biden’s reelection directly to voters.

The board members participated in a new campaign video released on Wednesday to emphasize their endorsement of Biden’s reelection and to inspire their supporters to do the same. More board members are anticipated to join as the campaign unfolds.

Campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz stated, “The Democratic Party is blessed with a remarkable roster of dedicated and charismatic leaders, all rallying behind the Biden-Harris 2024 campaign. They embody the wide, diverse voter coalition that banded together in 2020 to secure a historic victory for President Biden and Vice President Harris. We are immensely grateful for their commitment to helping this campaign triumph over the MAGA extremist agenda and to assist President Biden in accomplishing his mission for the American people.”

Biden, now 80, has been attempting to assuage concerns about his age among some Democrats, given that polls indicate a preference within the party for him not to run for another term. He also hopes to address doubts about his party’s eagerness for another Oval Office run.

For another victory, Biden will rely on the support of young voters and Black voters — especially women — as well as blue-collar Midwesterners, moderates, and disillusioned Republicans who contributed to his win over former President Donald Trump in 2020.

The advisory board announcement comes at a critical time as President Biden looks to consolidate his party’s support and energize the base for the 2024 election campaign. The board’s diversity is a strategic move to show a united front that can appeal to many voters.

The board and Biden’s campaign team will be instrumental in creating campaign strategies, securing funding, and building public support. The presence of former primary rivals and potential presidential contenders on the board sends a clear message of unity, demonstrating that the Democratic Party is firmly behind Biden’s reelection bid.

Additionally, the board members’ extensive political networks will be leveraged to gather resources, making the Biden 2024 campaign formidable. Their public appearances and media engagements are anticipated to fortify the campaign’s messaging and rally the party’s base around Biden’s leadership and vision for America.

In his bid for reelection, President Biden wants to replicate the coalition that led him to victory in 2020. The young, Black, female, blue-collar, moderate, and disenchanted Republican voters who played a significant role in his win are vital for another successful campaign.

Despite concerns about his age, Biden is keen to ensure that his reelection bid is viewed positively within the party and among potential voters. The announcement of the advisory board is a calculated move to reaffirm his commitment to lead and to highlight the broad support he commands within the Democratic Party.

As the campaign progresses, more members are expected to join the advisory board, further expanding the voices supporting Biden’s reelection. This initiative, therefore, marks a crucial step in Biden’s 2024 campaign, setting the tone for the coming months and signalling a united and robust Democratic Party ready to contest for the presidency.
