Crystal Palace, the Premier League club, has announced the signing of a one-year contract extension with 75-year-old Roy Hodgson following his successful efforts in saving the team from relegation.
Following a two-year break and his previous retirement from soccer, Roy Hodgson rejoins Crystal Palace, expressing immense satisfaction and pride in extending his tenure. Despite reaching the age of 76 next month, Hodgson continues to be drawn back into the sport he loves. After leaving Palace in 2021, it was widely believed that his 45-year managerial career, which included stints at Inter Milan, Liverpool, and the England national team, had come to an end. However, he returned briefly to manage Watford in 2022 before answering Palace’s call last season when the team found itself in a precarious position, only three points above the relegation zone after a winless streak of 12 matches.
Under Hodgson’s guidance, Palace achieved a remarkable turnaround, winning three of their first three games and losing only two matches out of ten during his tenure. This impressive performance comfortably secured their position in England’s top division.
Having previously managed Palace from 2017 to 2021, Roy Hodgson returned to the club on a short-term contract following Patrick Vieira’s dismissal last season. Assured of the team’s potential, he expressed confidence in avoiding relegation again and outlined ambitious goals for the squad.
