Harry Kisikopoulus, in his work on early steam power, suggests that a boiler concealed within a hollow idol figure could have produced steam, which would then be expelled through a pipe ending in the idol’s nose or mouth. This escaping steam could have created the illusion of a breathing figure, evoking awe and wonder among temple-goers.
